Working on a scenic duck painting.
...Planned to add more ducks in the sky, but now I'm not sure it needs anything more.
Doing some little painted sketches:
Some recent paintings:
"Winter Passage"
"Five Parakeets"
This painting was recently selected to be in the Birds in Art exhibit at the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Museum in Wassau, WI. At 36" X 60" it is larger than my usual work.
I have been having fun lately doing drawings in pencil and "pen and ink". These drawings are done with pens cut from reeds that I gathered from the marsh. I much prefer them to the metal type.
A painting of bison crossing the Yellowstone River in Montana.
Over the winter I did a series of small(6X8)songbird portraits. Here are a few:
This painting is currently on display at the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum where it was selected to be included in the 2020 Birds in Art exhibition.
Other paintings in the studio:
...and a work in progress:
"October River Scene"
Enough swan stuff....here are some other things I have been working on:
Don't forget to buy your duck stamp!
I have been working on a swan painting. I am hoping that the lower part will be used as the background of the PSA version of this year's duck stamp, and the overall painting will likely form the basis of a poster commemorating the appearance of Trumpeter Swans on the Federal Duck stamp.
Otherwise, I've been gearing up for the release of the 2016-2017 duck stamp print.
The brothers and I did well in the Federal Duck Stamp contest this year. I got first place, Bob was second and Jim third!
Here is the winning design, Trumpeter Swans, inspired by the amazing recovery of trumpeter swans over the last couple of decades. Click the image for a time-lapse video of the painting as it was being created.
Some recent paintings...
